Student-led market day raises $3,500 for charity

South Wellington Intermediate School (SWIS) is taking proactive steps to increase the money smarts of their students. As part of its financial literacy programme, the school held a market day at the beginning of December to encourage students to start talking and thinking about money.

Teachers key to financial literacy in schools

Time and resources should be allocated for upskilling teachers to ensure children are armed with the financial knowledge they need according to Ursula Menke. The Commissioner of the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) on a visit to Wellington stressed that understanding money is an essential life skill for children.
